Prospect Spotlight: Caleb Barton (2018)
A hidden gem in Central Utah, 5-foot-10 guard Caleb Barton had a tremendous junior season with South Sevier, but still finds himself fully on the market.
He says no recruitment has come his way, and mentioned his size and where he plays as possible factors. But with his ability to rebound from the guard spot, and a desire to compete at the next level, he could generate some attention this coming winter.
“I haven’t really been contacted by many schools. I think I’m under the radar because I’m 5’10, and I’m from a small school,” said Barton.
“I’m just looking to go anywhere, somewhere that wants me.”
Even at 5-foot-10, Barton led his team in rebounding last season as a junior. That’s just one of his many strengths as a player.
“I’m known as a 3-point shooter, and I led my team last year with rebounds; I try and impact the game that way. As well as creating for my teammates,” said Barton.
“It’s all about effort and just working hard. And I kind of have a nose for the ball, and I go get it.”
He added: “I play more off the ball; catch and shoot , penetrate and kick when I have opportunities. That will be my role this year.”
During his 17U campaign, Barton was playing with Salt Lake Metro, and says he was working to diversify his offensive skill-set.
“I liked playing with them a lot. I had a few games where I hit a bunch of 3s. It was a good experience, it was a lot of fun,” he said.
“I’ve been working on my ball-handling and getting to the hole a little bit more; just one-on-one moves and things like that.”
Barton was great as a junior while averaging 15.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Now, as he heads into his senior season, he’ll look to again lead his team.
“I want to lead my team in scoring and rebounding again, and assists also,” said Barton. “And the goal is just to lead my team to a state championship.”
