For a player going from 8th grade straight to varsity, the transition can be quite difficult and can take some time. But for Clark Montessori sophomore Sean Ealy, there were a few moments during his freshmen year when he started to feel he belonged. “I first felt I belonged in the summer scrimmages at Mason, I played good defense against the older guards and that helped me feel like I belonged,” Ealy stated. Armed with the confidence of an Honorable Mention nod from his first varsity season, Ealy is looking to prove even more for his sophomore season.
Sean is a very aggressive guard who excels at getting in and making things happen in the lane. In particular on the baseline, Ealy is a very strong and creative finisher who does not shy away from contact. This is one of the reasons that he stated he put in a lot of work into his mid-range jumper and his shot from behind the arch. “I worked on getting more arch on my jump shot over the summer,” Sean stated. “I know that those shots are there for me, I just have to knock them down.” Also, this summer Ealy saw time at the point position, which is a change for him from the high school season. “Playing the point really helped me become more of a vocal leader.” Sean stated. “It also helped me learn how to get players the ball in the spots where they like as well.”
As for his sophomore season Mr. Ealy has big plans for himself and his Cougar teammates. “As for my personal goals, I want to average 20 points per game and make 1st team all-conference and be the best leader I can be. Team goal would be to make it to districts. I feel that we can make that happen, we can play with any team in the city.” If Sean plays up to his potential, there is a good chance Clark Montessori can make districts a reality this upcoming season.
