Program MVP: Maurice Commander
Who was the MVP of each grassroots team program this past spring and summer? This might not necessarily be the best player although in many cases it is. We are looking at the player from Illinois that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
The MVP for Young & Reckless came down to their depth of point guards at all levels including monster performances and summers from a trio of 2019 and 2020 prospects. In the end we gave the nod to the vet at the lead guard position who elevated the play of himself and those around him. That player is Curie 2018 point guard Maurice Commander. He joined Y&R in the spring and made an immediate impact with his leadership, playmaking ability, and shot making. The lefty lead guard plays with a great flair for the game, but doesn’t make a lot of turnovers as he is strong with the ball. Capable spot up shooter that can also pull up stopping and popping from 15-18 feet in the mid-range. Commander is a vocal leader that commands the respect of his teammates on a game in and game out basis.
Congratulations to Curie 2018 point guard Maurice Commander on winning the PrepHoopsIllinois Program MVP for Young & Reckless.
