Program MVP: DJ Steward
Who was the MVP of each grassroots team program this past spring and summer? This might not necessarily be the best player although in many cases it is. We are looking at the player from Illinois that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
Meanstreets saw great success at the 17U level, but for the most part that was due to out of state talent. In our MVP series we look at just prospects from the state of Illinois. Our program MVP for Meanstreets is Fenwick 2020 point guard DJ Steward. The young point guard took the momentum he had from the high school season and continued it into the spring and summer. He is a long and lanky lead guard with speed in the open floor. He has the ability to get where he needs on the floor to make the play that he wants. Steward has a plus mid-range jump shot and is extending that range out to three. Slippery ball handler that plays with an advanced IQ for the game at a young age.
Steward was the lone 2020 prospect from the state of Illinois at the prestigious Nike Elite 100 camp back in June. He performed well even though he was one of the youngest prospects at the camp. Steward took a bit to get adjusted against the big towering post players, but once he did he started to pop jumpers and find teammates for assists. Bright future for this lead guard.
Congratulations to Fenwick 2020 point guard DJ Steward on winning the PrepHoopsIllinois Program MVP for Meanstreets.
