Here is a look at the recruiting news from around the Carolinas’.
COMMITMENTS
2018 forward Jimmy Nichols of Conway HS has committed to Providence. He chose the Friars over Miami and South Carolina. Nichols spent this summer with Garner Road on the Adidas circuit. He is ranked as the 5th best player in the PrepHoopSC’s 2018 rankings. Jeff Battle of Providence has done a good job of recruiting the Carolinas’. Has picked up Nichols and Kris Monroe from Team Wall/St. David’s in North Carolina in a little over a month.
Jimmy Nichols2018 wing Quan McCluney of Gaston Day/Team Loaded NC has committed to College of Charleston. McCluney is a killed small forward that can attack the paint and finish at the rim. Has a good looking shot and can grab rebounds with his size. He is one of the better shooters in the state.
The #15 2018 in South Carolina, big man Gabe Bryant committed to Gardner-Webb. Helped lead Dorman HS to state championship last season. He is an athletic big man that can score in the post and can defend. He can knock down the turn-round jumper from 12 feet.
2018 Elijah McCadden of Greenfield School committed to Georgia Southern. McCadden has very long arms and handles the ball extremely well, is a pass-first big point guard. He and Coby White make for a tough tandem at Greenfield School.
COACHING CHANGES
Former Southern Durham High School standout David Noel was named the head coach at his alma mater this past week. A former North Carolina Tar Heel, Noel has played professionally overseas for the last 11 years. He will have one standout returning this season in Jomaru Brown. Brown is very versatile at the PG spot, athletic with a quick first-step and attacks the paint and can finish strong. He recently picked up a offer from Evansville.
