Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo: 2020/2021 New Names to Know
The 160 plus kids that attended the Top 250 Prep Hoops Expo included several players that caught our eye for the first time. Who were they and why did they grab our attention?
Drew Adams of East Ridge (6-5, 2021). The young Raptor showed skills and quality size to go with it for a young player his age.
Ryan Boysen of Rockford (5-9, 2021). Players simply couldn’t keep a body in front of Ryan and his ability to finish on either side or kick for results stuck with many when people talked about standouts.
Mark Campbell of Minneapolis Henry (6-0, 2020) and Jamar Gardner of Minneapolis Henry (5-11, 2020). The thoughts about seeing Mark and Jamar went to “this are young men that seems like he can be a good player for Henry”.
Charlie DuBois of West Fargo Sheyenne (6-4, 2020). Strong guard with a shooting touch, Charlie used his frame well to finish close and create separation around the rim.
Connor Garrity of Stillwater (5-10, 2021). Garrity was lights out all day as a spot up shooter catching and knocking down shots. Guys began to look for him more and more and most times he gave his opponents three points.
Reid Gastner of Lake City (6-3, 2020). Lake City’s future continues to be in good hands as they will have Reid scoring in the frontcourt in many ways for the next three years.
Luke Gitzen of Chanhassen (6-3, 2020). Luke isn’t a player that I personally saw much but he’s a guy that impressed other coaches at the Expo, so much so that his name was brought up a few times.
Joich Gong of Mankato East (6-1, 2020). If a guy attacked the rim, Gong was there cutting to catch and finish. If there was a turnover, Gong was there to collect and score. If there was a break, Gong was on it scoring. All over the place.
J’Vonne Hadley of Mahtomedi (6-4, 2020). Hadley should have been in yesterday’s article listing the ten best because this strong and agile sophomore has an outstanding day making active plays. Bright athletic future.
Zach Jackson of Lester Prairie (6-foot-1, 2021). Jackson competed hard finding ways to contribute moving without the basketball and completing plays with a soft touch. Solid rebounding day too.
Amir Madyun of Anoka (6-3, 2021). When it came to the freshman at this event Amir was one of the best prospects. Few guys there had his size and agility at such a young age. Several athletic finishes.
Ayden McDonald of Hibbing (6-0, 2022). The only 2022 at the event but he didn’t play like a middle school kid. McDonald is a smart and skilled player who will be on the court soon in Kevin McHale land.
Jordan Merseth of Mankato East (6-5, 2020). The Tank. Jordan simply moved where he wanted but did it at his pace and softly touched in numerous field goals. And that three at the end of the day was the cherry on the…tank.
Nasrudin Mohamed of St. Cloud Apollo (6-6, 2020). Mohamed was the other player that likely belonged on the 10/12 best article from yesterday. He’s got a soft touch around the basket, length, and very active feet that put him around the basket for several boards and active baskets. I would imagine he will be on the court for Apollo this year as few guys are this long and agile.
