Ian Steere De-Commits from Creighton
Steere De-Commits from Creighton
One of the top big men in North Carolina, Ian Steere has backed off his commitment from Creighton University. Steere recently transferred back near his home to attend Northwood Temple Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina after attending Wesleyan Christian in High Point, North Carolina.
He told PrepHoopNC’s Justin Byerly his reason for his de-commitment was he wanted to find a place closer to home to go to school for the next four years. He also told Justin Byerly that he has heard from Arkansas, Pitt, NC State, South Carolina, Butler, Mizzou, and Cincinnati since announcing. His head coach, Corey Baker at Northwood Temple was in New York City at the time of the announcement and has said his phone has been blowing up with colleges that are interested in Steere.
His Game
The 6-foot-9, 240 pound Steere spent the summer playing with Team Charlotte on the Under Armor circuit. He is a very strong forward who can rebound and score on the low-block. He is a big man that runs the floor, gets blocks on defense and dunks in transition. He chose Creighton over offers from Florida State, High Point, Texas Tech, Clemson, Old Dominion, Hampton, North Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Connecticut, Pitt, Maryland, Seton Hall, NC State, Louisville, St. Joe’s and Charlotte.
What You Are Getting
A program with the need for a big wide bodied post player that is in the vicinity of the Southeast would be my bet to land Steere. Being that Omaha, Nebraska was too far from home for Steere schools in the Southeast should make him a priority again for their program. Steere can come in from day one and contribute with his ability to run the floor and his ability to rebound. He automatically makes the front line deeper for any school that he decides to go to. He is a well coached player that played under former NBA player Jeff McInnis at Team Charlotte.
