Class of 2018 Small College PGs
Time to check out a few of the point guards that we think would be quality prospects at the D3/NAIA levels at the next level.
PG Michael Smith (Joliet West)
Smith is a priority small college recruit with his combination of strength and being able to shoot the basketball. He has range on his perimeter jumper and has a knack for coming up big in clutch moments.
PG Patrick Fisher (Bloomington)
Fisher elevated his game playing for the Illinois Wolves this summer on the travel team circuit. The athletic guard showed he could play on the ball initiating the offense, get others involved, and still score when given the opportunity.
PG Brian Conaghan (New Trier)
Conaghan is a big time small college prospect! He has the perimeter jump shot that he knocks down at a good clip. Moves well away from the ball to get open and makes quality decisions when the ball is in his hands.
PG Ben Tompson (Bartlett)
Tompson broke out in July with his play for Kessel Heat. He has a nice combination of perimeter shooting, mixing in drives, and can pass it as well. Would be a great local steal for a small college program.
PG Sammy Green (Alton Marquette)
Green is a flashy point guard that plays with a lot of flair. He knows how to make others around him better with his slick passing ability. Throws bullet passes. Green can also hit jump shots pulling up as well.
PG Ahmad Muhammad (St. Joseph’s)
Muhammad is a rock solid guard that doesn’t do anything spectacular, but just goes about his business and gets the job done. Initiates the offense, runs the show, and can hit a mid-range jumper. Solid defender.
PG Morgan Taylor (Marist)
Taylor came out with a very strong spring and summer for Illinois Fastbreak. The Marist point guard showed he could score in bunches for spurts of games. Would be an impact player for a small college in the Midwest.
PG Camron Donatlan (West Aurora)
Donatlan brings a lot of talent to the table. It wasn’t seen consistently this summer on the circuit as he bounced around travel teams and just couldn’t find a great fit. He is a track standout with plus athleticism and size for position. Would be a guy that if a school could get him on a dual scholarship could be a gem.
PG Brandon Simberg (Libertyville)
Simberg didn’t get a ton of tick with the Mac Irvin Fire, but this kid is a tough and spunky point guard that can shoot it a little. Plays with a lot of grit to his game!
PG Jack Marinko (Edwardsville)
Marinko is a plus shooter at the point guard position. Best utilized as a spot up shooter, but can play some on the ball initiating the offense and moving it around.
