Can the Heels sign the two stars from Fayetteville?
With the summer coming to end and football season beginning all across the country, it’s time for some of the top prospects to take official and unofficial visits to possible future colleges. That was the case for 2019 Guard Josh Nickelberry and 2019 Wing Joey Baker who were both on the campus of UNC on Saturday. Nickelberry is currently at Oak Hill Academy as they are preparing very hard for the season in Mouth of Wilson, VA. While Baker remained at Trinity Christian his junior year and will look to lead Trinity Christian back to a NCISAA State Championship which they were able to capture the season before last.
Their day consisted of checking meeting with Coach Roy Williams for small chat and then checking out the UNC vs Cal football game. Although UNC came up short, there is nothing like experiencing a college football environment for a young person. Of course they also got the opportunity to mingle with the UNC players whom they already know pretty well. Jalek Felton and Baker player AAU ball together with Team Felton for numerous years and have developed a very good relationship. While Josh Nickelberry has a very good relationship with quite a few UNC players as well including former Word Of God Christian Academy Center Brandon Huffman who is beginning his freshman year there.
So of course UNC fans are wondering if there is a realistic change that both of these young men could reunite in two years with both wearing the classic ‘‘ Carolina Blue’’ . Well at this point it seems as if both youngsters are definitely going through the entire process and they each very impressive scholarship offers prior to their junior year. Nickelberry has 30+ offers with UNC, Louisville, Clemson and Florida State being some of the ACC schools that have offered. One of the schools that UNC is in competition with is Wake Forest who had Josh on campus this past weekend as well, Wake Forest has really been on the rise and has signed some high level prospects as of late. While Baker has 20+ offers with schools such as UCLA, Kansas and NC State already offering him. So yes there is a chance that we could see this duo of special young men reunited at Chapel Hill but it’s no guarantee, they both have plenty of options and I would be shocked to see Duke and Kentucky jump in the mix for both of these youngsters.
