Big Weekend for Clemson Visits (Free)
Clemson University hosts Auburn tonight at 7PM. The #3 ranked Tigers also host some of the top basketball talent in the country for the 2018 class and 2019 class.
John NewmanOne of the top recruits in the nation, Zion Williamson of Spartanburg Day will visit Death Valley tonight along with 2018 PG Devon Dotson, 2019 PG Josiah James and 2018 commit John Newman.
Newman, ranked #5 in PrepHoopNC’s 2018 class chose Clemson in mid-June and will be trying to push the other 3 visitors to do the same while on campus. Newman is a 6-foot-6 swingman for Greensboro Day and played with Team CP3 this season on the Nike EYBL circuit. Newman had this to say about the top recruits visiting with him this weekend, “It would not only be a great get in regards of the team next year. But landing beasts like Zion or Devon would be a big turnaround in the basketball program as a whole. I think it would definitely change the culture of basketball at clemson being that they haven’t really ever gotten players of that caliber on a consistent basis. I think it could be the start of something special. Clemson will always be a football school, but the commitment of any of the guys on campus today would definitely be a HUGE step in the right direction for the culture.”
Williamson is the top priority for Clemson in the 2018 class and the Tiger staff is trying to keep him close to home. The 6-foot-8 highlight-reel is one of the most coveted recruits in recent memory.
Dotson was scheduled to visit Florida this weekend for an official visit, but it was canceled because of Hurricane Irma. I spoke to Dotson’s dad, Dana this morning to confirm they will make the trip down this afternoon. Dotson plays at Providence Day in Charlotte and is the #2 ranked recruit in PrepHoopNC’s 2018 rankings.
James is one of the top 2019 prospects in the Carolinas’ out of Porter Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. He is a 6-foot-6 point guard. He spent this past summer playing with Team TMP.
