Beach Ball Classic
One of the biggest high school basketball tournaments in the country is back again in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this December. The Beach Ball Classic is held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center near downtown on December 26-30 this year. Some of the top teams in Carolinas’ and the nation converge on Myrtle Beach for a huge event in front of a lot of fans. Some notable alumni from the Beach Ball Classic includes NBA All-Stars Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Raymond Felton, Mike Bibby, and Rasheed Wallace. This tournament was started in 1981, as a way to try and bring more talented tournaments to the East coast.
The team from North Carolina scheduled to compete is Cox Mill High School, coached by Jody Barbee. The Chargers are the defending NCHSAA 3-A state champs and have the AP Player of the Year in Wendell Moore, a 6-foot-5 wing who is ranked as the #1 prospect in the state by PrepHoopsNC. Also on this years roster is North Carolina commit Rechon Black. Black spent this past season playing at Montverde Academy in Florida and deciding to spend his last season near his home. He is a 6-foot-7 point forward who is ranked as the #3 prospect in North Carolina by PrepHoopsNC for 2018. Cox Mill also brings back 2019 wing Caleb Stone-Carrawell. He is the son of former Duke great Chris Carrawell and is starting to get some recognition and college interest in his own right. He is a 6-foot-6 wing that can multiple things on the court and is a versatile nightmare for opposing coaches.
Other regional programs scheduled to compete is Spartanburg Day, who feature one of the most sought after recruits in the country with Zion Williamson. Williamson is a human highlight reel and is being recruited by Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Clemson.
