Westover HS Open Gym & Season Preview
We stopped in to check out Westover HS open gym on Thursday evening, although they had a few players missing due to football, the Wolverines put in a good amount of work and had several talented players.
Jalin Thorne (6’7 Forward, C/O 18) – Thorne will be the player that Westover looks to, to be productive throughout the season scoring the ball and rebounding. He is a skilled player who can develop into a special player if he increases his motor, Western Carolina and East Tennessee State both showing interest.
Kenny Scott (6’6 Forward, C/O 18) – Kenny has improved greatly since last season, he rebounded the ball very well and played hard throughout. He showed the ability to make plays from the high post as well as playing with his back to the basket.
Justin Ward (6’0 Guard, C/O 18) – Justin is a player that can bring veteran leadership to the squad, he’s played varsity for a few years now and been in all types of games so he will have the ability to help the younger players grow.
Traymond Willis-Shaw (6’7 Forward, C/O 20) – Traymond was unable to attend due to illness but he definitely will be a player that will be big for Westover HS, he’s athletic with length and potential to be very good.
Football Players who were unable to attend
Tyron George (6’1 Guard C/O 2019) – He can score the ball in multiple ways and has nice athletic ability, solid frame and approaches the game with a businesslike approach.
Thomas Hendricks (Guard C/O 2019)- Will most likely play major minutes for Westover at the PG spot, has a good feel for the game and loves to compete.
Next Generation of Wolverines
The workout also included some younger players that we will definitely hear more about, they are freshman and sophomores but have talent and potential. Remember the names: Jaylen Swilley, Nahsir Knight-Bell and Ma’Nas Drummond, as they will more than likely be carrying the torch for Westover in the future.
