Recruiting Report: Damion Squire (2018)
Academia has always been a priority for Wasatch Academy point guard Damion Squire, and Ivy League schools are starting to get involved because of it.
The 6-foot point guard currently has one offer, from Portland State, and he’ll visit there later this month.
But several other schools are keeping a close eye on him.
“The rest is just interest from schools out West, like San Diego, UC-Davis, Cal State-Fullerton, schools like that. And I’ve been talking to some Ivy League schools as well, like Yale and Brown,” said Squire, who elaborated on his Ivy interest.
“For sure I’d be interested in an Ivy League school. I’ve always had high grades, and my mom would like for me to go to a good academic school also. I’d be looking at academics when it comes to my recruitment either way.”
A quick and agile slasher, Squire defined his skill-set to PHUT, and what is is that makes him the state’s 5th-ranked 2018.
“Mainly, I’m an athletic guard. I can use my speed and my strength to get to the rim and to push the ball up the court. I like to play at a high-tempo,” said Squire.
“I like to say I’m a good defender. I have quick feet and I can stay down low.”
This spring and summer, he was competing against other top guards from around the country with Exum Elite, an adidas Gauntlet squad.
“I did alright, and I could have done a little better. Throughout the summer I had ups and downs and I wasn’t as consistent as I wish I was. But overall, I had a good time,” said Squire.
Now, he’s preparing for his senior season at Wasatch Academy, and eager to get out there and possibly pick up some additional offers.
“I’m very excited for this year. We have a lot of good pieces that came in this year. As a senior, I’ll be one of the main leaders on the team, and I’ll be able to play well this year, and lead,” said Squire, who broke down his recruitment goals.
“Really, I’m just trying to find the perfect fit, that’s my main objective. I don’t really have a preference on where the school is located, I’m just trying to find the right fit for me.
He added: “I”m trying to find a school that fits my playing style, and where I’d feel comfortable and fit in well.”
