Top Duo’s/Trio’s in WNC
Raishaun Brown and Caleb Mills (Asheville Christian Academy)-The 6-foot-5 Mills is a new generation point guard who is long and tall. He uses his height to see over smaller opponents. He has the ability to score from all over the floor and can get hot from the three-point line in a hurry. He is athletic and can score off the dribble. His counterpart, Raishaun Brown is a smooth guard who can also score the basketball. He picked up his first Division One offer over the summer from Western Carolina University. The backcourt at Asheville Christian Academy these next two seasons will be among the best in the state.
Caleb MillsJalen Lecque, Brad Halvorsen and Norance Berry (Christ School)-The addition of Norance Berry is going to bring defense, length and hustle to Christ School. He goes and goes, good at attacking lane & scorer. Lecque is one of the most athletic players in the country and has offers from a who’s who among college basketball programs. Halvorsen is the younger brother of WCU freshman Matt Halvorsen and is a shooter. Lafyette (Pa.) has reached out about the younger Halvorsen.
Tai Giger, D’Angelo Elliott and Lee Langstaff (Carolina Day)-D’Angelo Elliott has college size at the guard spot, big shoulders and long arms. Can get to the rim and is a solid defender. Tai Giger of Carolina Day is sneaky athletic, is hard to guard when attacking the lane, finished with contact and finishes at the rim. Langstaff is a rising sophomore who is a legitimate scoring threat. Had a strong summer with East Coast Knights.
Jake Smith and Jay Walton (Enka HS)–The sophomore is one of the best in the WNC area. He has a great shot, good form and a high release. He scores best coming off ball-screens and rising up to hit the long-range jump shot. Walton was impressive in my second time seeing him. The 6-foot-5 forward was all over the boards, grabbing rebound after rebounds. His length makes him one to watch in this area that does not see an abundance of the asset.
Isaiah Pruett (Reynolds HS)-One of the top point guards this year in Western North Carolina is Pruett is a PrepHoops Top 250 alum is a do-it-all type point guard, he is great in the open floor, he has great court vision, can knock down shots past the 3-point line. What stands out the most is his ability to create off the dribble and his shot-making. Standing 5-foot-9, Pruett plays more like the is 6-foot-3 with his athletic ability, basketball IQ and court sense. He has a natural feel for the game and just knows how to play basketball. Something that cannot be taught and is missing a lot in the game today.
