Southeastern Elite Camp Scouting Reports: Underclassmen
Dywan Griffin 6’0 G Landry-Walker 2019
On the defensive end, there is only a single word needed to describe Griffin. He’s a hound. Pound for pound, he was the best defender there in my opinion, and he isn’t a slouch by any imagination on the offensive end. He can both score and facilitate, and takes what the defense give him. He is a no brainer D1 prospect for me, and it is only a matter of time before college coaches come around.
Terrance “TJ” Jones 5’10 G LCA 2019
This was my first time seeing TJ outside of an LCA jersey, and he showed that he can play still at a high level when not playing to high major prospects. He can score at all three levels, and if he get’s going he is tough to stop. There were times over the camp that he tried to do too much and it got him in trouble.
Rodney Munson 6’2 G Bonnabel 2019
Munson looks better and better every time that I see him. Just a year ago, he was used almost exclusively as a jump shooter, but has clearly been working hard on his ball handling skills. He is now able to take defenders off the dribble, and although his shooting form is a bit unorthodox, there is no debate that it goes in.
Jalen Cook 5’10 G Walker 2020
I went from seeing very little of Jalen Cook to a lot in the course of a little over a week, and I am very impressed with what I see. 1 on 1, he is nearly impossible to stop, so you better be bringing extra help, but wherever that help comes from, Cook is going to see it and make the pass exactly where it needs to be. Cook has high major D1 potential.
Nicholas Caldwell 6’6 F Dutchtown 2019
This was my first time catching Caldwell play, and I was very impressed with what I came away with. Caldwell has size that you are looking for, and he surprised me with his ability to put the ball on the ground and attack from the wing. There were times that he forced things a bit, but that should get better with time.
John Rawls 6’8 F East Marion (MS) 2019
In my opinion, Rawls was the most impressive big man at the camp, regardless of class or age. Rawls is a big body down in the post, but is surprisingly agile and active. He has polish down low, and can use his big body to rebound at a high level. He also showed the ability to shoot the midrange jumper, and his form looks like he will be able to stretch out past the three point line.
William Allen 6’6 F Bonnabel 2021
Allen was one of the youngest players in the building, but you would have no idea while watching him. He is a big player, and doesn’t look like he is done growing. He is one of the top big prospects for the 2021 class, and definitely a player to keep an eye on going forward. He had one of the most impressive plays of the day, catching a poorly thrown lob with one hand and flipping the ball into the rim.
