Shift Team: 2018 Prospects
Most point guards in this day and age can handle the ball. However, not all of those guards are “shifty” with the ball. Guards that are shifty bring a different level of excitement to a game with their ball handling ability and it typically enables guards to be better natural scorers. Check out a few guards apart of the “Shift Team” below.
Freddie Taylor – 5’10” PG – New Hanover High School
With a full head of steam, Freddie puts fear in the eyes of most high school defenders. Cat quick reflexes and a air-tight handle enable him to change directions at a lightning quick pace. Uses the stepback dribble well. Strong hesitation dribble helps him create space for himself to get his shot and he’s very unselfish. Makes the game easy for his teammates.
Jahlen King – 6’1” G – Page High School
Wired to score. King gets to the basket at will off the dribble Extremely crafty with the ball. Uses a bevy of hesitations, shot fakes and spins to get where he wants to go. Has really good shot making ability as well, even through contact. Will head to the free throw line quite often as a senior. Expect a huge scoring season and offers should indeed follow.
Malik Leach – 5’11” PG – Perquimans High School
Leach possesses some impressive quickness and handles. Has a lightning quick and deadly spin move that gets plenty of separation from defenders. Really good lateral movement on both sides of the ball. Gets into the paint at will against half-court sets. Tough to stop in transition. Should his jump-shot continue developing, he could do some serious damage this year.
Kris Williams – 6’1” PG – Clinton High School
Sturdy! Williams is a physically gifted lead guard that will have his way with majority of his opponents as a senior. Doesn’t get sped up, is strong with the ball, knocks down shots with consistency and he has a ton of experience. Will be shocked if he doesn’t earn several offers to play on the college level early in his senior season.
