Recruiting Report: Robert Jones (2019)
Six-foot-9 Robert Jones is the top center prospect in Minnesota’s 2019 class right now as he consistently improves his game day by day.
“The AAU season went well,” Jones told Prep Hoops. “The biggest thing I learned had to be the skills and mindset you get from playing against tough competition.”
D1 Minnesota was one of the most respected 16u teams in the nation this year and Jones was a key piece on the glass, defending in the low blocks, providing length teams had to score over, and actively scoring around the basket.
Robert Jones is quickly getting better and the game by game results show that as does the college interest and scholarship offers. But the goals are high for Jones therefore he has a plan for improvement.
“I’m working on improving my shooting and ball handling mostly,” Robert said. “I’m trying to get stronger, too.”
Prior Lake won 14 games a year ago but this year they will be a new team. Jones will move from being a reserve to being the man in the middle, sophomore-to-be Dawson Garcia will move to being a main scoring option, and then you have guys like Sam Nissen, Brandon Collins, and Pat Bernick all ready for bigger roles.
“I think we will have a lot of talent, but we will have to come together as a team in order to play well and achieve our goal of making it to state,” Jones said.
Jones isn’t just a guy in the rise because we at Prep Hoops say so. The coaches to the level are seeing something in Jones as well.
“Obviously I have heard a lot from North Dakota and UW-Green Bay who have offered scholarships and I was very excited and grateful for my first division one offers,” Robert told NHR. “But I have heard from Northern Iowa, University of Denver, UW-Milwaukee, Wisconsin, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Miami of Ohio.”
Robert has been thrust into the college recruiting thing while traveling around on one of the best teams in the nation the last four months. Now he is focused on his junior season of high school hoops.
“My goals for my junior year are to work hard on the little things in practices so my big goals fall into place, be a leader on and off the court and have fun!”
