Recruiting Report: Jordan Goodwin (2018)
The transfer news continues to roll in as it has all summer, but for 2018 guard Jordan Goodwin, his announcement was made very quietly. It was a decision that was made before this month to transfer from St. Frances Academy to Millford Mill Academy to finish out his high school career.
The move was made so that Goodwin had the opportunity to polish his ball handling and point guard skills.
“I was probably the fourth ball handler as St. Frances,” Goodwin told PrepHoops. “I’ll be first or second at Milford.”
The 6-1 guard has often times been featured as the shooting guard because of his ability to score and stretch the floor, but at the college level he’ll be expected to be more of the primarily ball handler at his size. Getting the reps in now will only help prepare him for when that time comes.
Goodwin holds one offer from UMBC with interest from Norfolk State and a list of Division II and Division III schools.
Goodwin had a very successful spring and summer with Mid Atlantic Select. He was featured as one of the go-to options offensively and didn’t disappoint. Once he sees one go in from deep, he’s a threat every time he catches the ball and he knows how to mix it up to keep the defense honest.
I recently saw Goodwin play in the Pride of Maryland Team Camp with Milford. He did have stretches where he was facilitating the offense well. Since they saw a lot of zone defense, Goodwin was taking advantage by sniping from long range with efficiency. There wasn’t a game where he didn’t connect on at least three three’s. He was also making smart decisions in transition with advance passes to get a quick basket for his teammates. His communication defensively will be huge for Milford this season.
The Millers will look for revenge after coming up short in the Baltimore County Championship against Perry Hall last season. With a slew of new, talented players their chances look very good at returning for another shot.
“I’m just focused on bringing a championship,” Goodwin claimed. “I also want to focus on being the leader of this team.”
