Recruiting Report: Grant DeMeulanere (2018)
After leading his team to a 1A state title last March, Grand View Christian point guard Grant DeMeulenaere saw his recruitment spike.
So much so that he just recently got back from an elite camp at Division I school, Colgate, in New York.
“I think they might have seen me at a tournament. They sent me a camp invite a while back, and we just continued emailing and I sent them some film. They said they really liked the film, so they wanted to get me up there,” said DeMeulenaere.
“I went up there and it went really well, and I think their coach is going to keep in contact with me and follow my progress throughout the year.”
Though Colgate is his only D1 interest, other schools started to come after DeMeulenaere — Iowa’s 51st-ranked 2018 — after his state tourney triumph.
“Recruitment picked up a lot after the state tournament, actually. Quite a few D2s contacted me; Northern State started talking to me, Wayne State sent some letters. And I’ve been to three elite camps; Sioux Falls, Missouri-St. Louis and Colgate,” said DeMeulenaere.
“For NAIAs, I have an offer from Dordt, and then Briar Cliff and Morningside are two others who have shown a lot of interest, and it sounds like they’ll be close to offering, too.”
As for his own personal growth as a player, it’s the weights and the mid-range that have been his priorities this spring and summer.
“I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the weight room, just trying to get bigger and stronger and quicker. And I’m still working on my pull-up game, and getting to the rim easier, so I can finish better inside and not rely so much on my outside shot,” said DeMeulenaere, who says he’ll wait awhile to make his college decision.
“I definitely want to play out my senior season and see what other offers and interest I can get, and just make my decision after it all settles when the season is over.”
