Recruiting Report 2018: JP DeLorenzo
JP DeLorenzo , 6’2″ G/SF,2018. Oakdale Bears HS.Ijamsville, MD.
We got our first look at JP in the MD Elite Summer League playoff semifinals in which Oakdale defeated vs Bullis HS in OT. In the finals Oakdale defeated Springbrook HS 69-68 in which JP scored 17 points. We awarded JP Best Rim Attacker & Most Unsung player for the the game. He proved during the game he is vocal and a very smart basketball player. We were impressed by his toughness & his ability to stand up for his teammates. JP plays with an edge and aggressiveness coaches love.
Last season Oakdale finished at 22-3 with the 3 losses totaling just of 5 points. The Bears last loss was a heartbreaking 1 point loss in the Regionals to MD State 3A semifinalist Seneca Valley HS 53-52. Every Montgomery County HS Coach we talked to this summer had nothing but respect for Oakdale and their superb long time Head Coach Terry Connolly. Last year JP was the 6th man for Oakdale and he will be a key starter for the Bears for the 2017/18 season. Despite losing 2 key starters in 6’5″ F Corey Schlee & PF Sean Jodrie many believe Oakldale is the team to beat in Frederick County, MD for the 2017/18 season. We will have a Frederick County outlook and a Oakdale team preview in the near future.
This summer JP says,”I improved by playing in the MD Elite Summer League, where we faced better competition and players. My strengths are going to the basket and shooting the mid range, finishing at he rim off the dribble and my spot up 3. I have good court vision, a high basketball IQ and on defense I will guard the opponents 1st or 2nd best player.” Last season JP averaged 3.7 steals per game for the Bears.
In the classroom JP is an excellent student carrying a 3.2 GPA. He is not sure what he wants to major in college, but he wants to play college basketball. & loves the game. His role models include his parents and Oakdale head Coach Terry Connolly. JP will play some SF & WG for Oakdale, but he projects as a WG for college. He has a good understanding of what it takes to play in college & we think JP can play in college. We will be watching him this season & will report his progress in addition to Oakdale’s.
Collin Schlee left & JP will lead a talented Oakdale team for 2017/18/.
JP is #15 in the video, by our friend Marc Stern of Capitol Hoops.
