Prospect Spotlight 2020: Grant Okolo
Grant Okolo, 6’2″,CG, 2020. Reservoir Gators HS. Fulton, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team BBC
We recently heard rumblings about a 2020 Howard County player who has great upside & who is already an excellent all around player. The player is Grant Okolo, & he is a a very skilled multi position player who plays for Reservoir HS located on the border of Howard & Montgomery Counties. The school is very close in proximity to Washington, DC & Baltimore, MD. Last season as a freshmen Grant played varsity for Reservoir averaging 11.2ppg & 2 to 3 steals per game. This past summer he played for Team BBC 15U on the Grassroots Adidas Gauntlet Circuit where he averaged 12.3 ppg. This coming season he should be one of the top sophomores in all of MD.
Usually freshmen & sophomore HS guards are on the thin side, but Grant is powerfully built @ 190 pounds & athletic. He has very advanced skills & is creative with his offensive moves & attacking the rim from both sides. Grant can scores at the rim with floaters, reverse lay ins, spin moves, double pumps & more. Thru his high basketball IQ Grant knows when to score, pass or kick out, and makes the correct reads. He uses his strength very well to create space or play bully ball in the paint where he finishes very well thru contact.
Grant has the ability & skills to play on or off the ball. His handle is very solid with both hands & he can beat full court on ball pressure. He possesses very good court vision & reads his options & progressions very well. Grant adds,”If Coach Coughlan calls on me to play PG, I am very confident with my ability to run our team &very confident with my passing & ball handling skills. No matter where I play on the court, I want get my teammates involved & am a team player. On defense I work very hard and I play very good on ball defense & can apply full court pressure. Another strength I have is rebounding & I think I am very quick of my feet on the 1st & second jump.”
For the remainder of the summer Grant is working with his year round Trainer Kenny Trader. Grant says, “I have been training with Mr. Trader since 6th grade. We work on all aspects of basketball & I am very happy with my progress. We are working on my mid range & foot-work on both sides of the ball. We always work to continually improve my overall basketball skills, athleticism & strength & conditiong. I have learned to shoot the 3 ball on & off the dribble ball & while my shot is very good, we continue to hone my shooting consistency, & my shot preparation & mechanics. My athleticism & vertical is good & I can dunk very easily. However, I want to improve my vertical & everything related to basketball. Mr. Trader trains me hard & knows all the right buttons to push. He covers my overall training & we work with weights, run, perform plyometrics, & I have been using the Vertimax machine.”
Grant has the potential to become a D1 player due to his very high upside & skill set. He already has the size, athleticism & a very advanced overall skills for his class. For the 2017/18 season we will be covering Reservoir HS, Grant & Howard County basketball.
