Pride of Maryland Team Camp Standouts (Part 1)
Yesterday, the Stevenson University hosted their annual Pride of Maryland Team Camp to 11 teams around the state and one from Delaware. With AAU coming to a close, it was a chance for high school teams to reunite their roster and get some early preparation for the 2017-18 season.
In multiple parts, we’ll be taking a look at the standouts from this camp:
Jordan Goodwin | 6-2 | Milford Mill | 2018
Goodwin had the most productive day yesterday as he led the Millers to a 3-0 record. All of their wins came by double-digits. The St. Frances transfer seemed to fit in seamlessly with his new teammates. He was especially impressive knocking down three’s. Many of them came off catch-and-shoot situations, but Goodwin also had a couple of pull up mid-range jumpers after utilizing a pump fake. Goodwin is going to get buckets where ever he is, but another characteristic he brings to the Millers is leadership. His basketball IQ and calmness on the floor was contagious throughout their play as a team. He’ll be a big piece as Milford Mill looks for revenge from last year’s Baltimore County Championship loss.
Jason Murphy | 6-8 | Chapelgate Christian | 2019
As a team, Chapelgate struggled yesterday but Murphy was clearly a standout. His presence at 6-8 alone made him stick out, but it was his energy and production that made him an obvious choice for this list. Murphy was controlling the glass in each of his team’s three games and was also efficient finishing around the rim. His versatility and motor were also on display with a handful of mid-range jumpers and transition baskets. Defensively, Murphy did well protecting the rim when penetrating guards attacked the basket.
Savion Gallion | 6-3 | Thurgood Marshall | 2019
Like Goodwin, Gallion was impressive throughout the day displaying the way he can score the basketball. The shifty guard has a smooth offensive game and quick first step to get to the rim in the half court. Gallion is known for his ability to knock down jumpers. His shot was a bit off yesterday, but his shot selection was solid. He was very active in passing lanes defensively, which led to a few steals and easy lay ups for Thurgood Marshall. You can tell every time he steps on the floor, he plays with a chip on his shoulder and loves competing.
Ahmed Milton | 5-8 | Milford Mill | 2018
Milton was the smallest player on the floor in every game, but his presence was huge. He quarterbacked the Millers to their 3-0 record and had countless assists that came off his ability to slash into the heart of the defense. His energy is exactly what a point guard should bring to a team. Although Milton has the ability to knock down jumpshots, he’s loaded with scorers and shooters around him. It’s only right that he plays the distributor role for the Millers to run on all cylinders.
