Predicting the DMV’s Top Scorers (Part 2)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout Maryland, DC, and Virginia. In this edition we predict the top scorers in the DC Area.
XAVIER JOHNSON | BISHOP O’CONNELL ’18
Last season at O’Connell, Xavier Johnson wasn’t asked to score a whole lot, but still had some pretty big games. We expect the crafty, quick point guard to rack up plenty of foul shot attempts, and put consistent pressure on opposing defenses in his final high school campaign.
CASEY MORSELL | ST. JOHN’S ’19
Casey Morsell was the third leading scorer for the Cadets last season, and both of their top two scorers have graduated. Expect the 6’3 guard, who recently landed an offer from Oklahoma State, to pick up the slack and lead his team in scoring this year.
PRENTISS HUBB | GONZAGA ’18
Prentiss Hubb has established a reputation as the type of player that will do whatever it takes to win games. Gonzaga loses their heart and soul in last season’s leading scorer Chris Lykes, but the silky-smooth left handed Notre Dame commit should step up and help fill the void.
JERMAINE HARRIS | ROCK CREEK ’18
Rock Creek loses several key contributors from last season’s formidable team, but returns a nationally ranked big man in Jermaine Harris. There simply aren’t many bigs locally that can match up with the 6’9 forward, and he should significantly improve upon last season’s impressive numbers.
CHRISTIAN JONES | ANNAPOLIS ’18
Christian Jones has established himself as a bonafide scorer with an outstanding work rate. The 6’3 guard, who is probably the biggest sleeper in the state of Maryland, is poised to record monster numbers in his senior season.
