Predicting the DMV’s Top Scorers (Part 1)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout Maryland, DC, and Virginia. In this edition we anticipate the top scorers in the DC Metro Area.
MATT BALANC | SPRINGBROOK ’18
Matt Balanc averaged over 20 points per game last year, and could improve on those impressive numbers after what many would agree was a breakout summer. The rising senior, who complimented his season high of 43 with multiple 30 point outings, is a strong candidate to possibly lead the DC Metro Area in scoring for what should be considered one of the most talented teams in Montgomery County.
SADDIQ BEY | SIDWELL FRIENDS ’18
Saddiq Bey got into a good grove at the end of last season for the MAC Champions. The 6’7 wing, who scored 20+ in three of last season’s final four games, dropped a season-high 29 points in the MAC Championship game against Maret. We expect Bey to crack the 30 point mark several times this year, and don’t be surprised to see him pull down close to 10 boards per game.
JERMAINE HARRIS | ROCK CREEK ’18
Jermaine Harris is the only returner among Rock Creek’s top three leading scorers from last season, and is a favorite to lead his team in scoring this year. The 6’10 forward, who hit 18 threes last year, will attract all the attention of opposing defenses. Look for Harris to put up consistent and prouctive numbers in his final high school campaign.
CURTIS HOLLAND III | SOUTHERN ’18
Curtis Holland III averaged 14 points per game last year, but he loses most of the help he received from a year ago and could be asked to pick up much of the slack. The dynamic combo guard is a high level athlete, and will look to showcase the improvements he’s made offensively over the summer.
WYNSTON TABBS | RYKEN ’18
In 29 games last season, Wynston Tabbs was held out of double figure scoring numbers just five times. His signature performance, a 35 point eruption to defeat DeMatha, came toward the end of the season and is indicative of the type of confidence Tabbs is playing with at the moment. Given the loss of a handful of productive teammates, the Boston College commit could be in a position where he is scoring close to 30 points a game as a senior.
