Player Spotlight: Jamonty Williams (2018)
Name: Jamonty Williams
School: Wilson HS (SC)
Height: 6’6
Position: Forward
AAU: Carolina Wolves, Karolina Khaos
Recruitment: FMU, UNCP, Western Carolina, The Citadel.
One player that really caught my attention during the UNCP Elite Camp was Jamonty Williams, he started the day of somewhat slow but as the day went on he really showed how special he can be. He has solid size for a Forward at the D2/Low Major D1 level as well as a good overall skillset with nice potential. He can play above and below the rim , can shot it well from midrange and deep, and defensively he can defend multiple positons such as post players and wings. His rebounding ability was on full display, he not only has the physical tools to jump over opponents to grab rebounds but he also finds a body to box out every time the shot goes up. The next step for him will be to continuing to add muscle to his body and perfecting his ball handling skills. If he can continue to improve on those attributes he will only boost his recruitment up more from what it already is.
Q: How has the experience at UNCP Elite Camp been for you?
Jamonty: It’s been a really good experience, it’s a lot of good competition and you learn a lot in the drills, it’s also a lot of great players here which makes things competitive.
Q: What do you feel you bring to a team in high school and possibly in college?
Jamonty: I feel like I bring leadership to the team, energy and great rebounding.
Q: What’s some of the things that you look for when choosing a college program?
Jamonty: Just a program that feels like home and where the whole team feels like family, almost so it would be like a home away from home. Also the coaching staff will be huge, I’m looking for a staff and coaches that know the game but also care about you as a person.
