NC All Defense Team: Part 2
Devian Smith Guard Elevation Prep: Although he’s smaller in height he makes up for it with his strength and quickness, he is what we would call a ‘‘pesky’’ defender, no matter what you try to do to get him off of you he is still is around. He plays the game with a high amount of confidence and is constantly talking on the court to his teammates as well as coaches.
Fairmont HS Guard Cory Addison: If you’ve watched Fairmont HS over the years then you already know about the reputation of their guards and the ability they bring to defend. The team always preaches strong man to man defense and one of their top defenders this year was Cory, he had a little bit more height and length to him and understood how to use it well.
Fike HS Forward Samson Strickland: Samson has a physique that is similar to a college football player, he has very broad shoulders and the upper body strength that definitely shows that he spends time in the weight room. Although he’s only 6’5-6’6, his strength and grit allows him to be able to defend bigs that are much taller than he is.
Riverside HS Forward Markel Freeman: Although he decided to play football in college, he could have easily been a very nice college level player. At 6’7 with outstanding athletic ability, it’s no surprise that he was productive on both ends of the floor. He displayed the ability to defend bigs and wings and came up with a high amount of blocked shots.
Lumberton HS Forward D.J McDonald: As the season went on, he continued to get better, he has a nice amount of raw talent and potential without a doubt. He blocks and alters shots at a high rate and runs the floor with guards on the offensive end, will be good if he continues to work.
Village Christian Guard Josh Haymer: One of the top on the ball defenders in the area and even in the state over the past few years. He has a tremendous IQ for the game and once you combine that with good lateral quickness and fast hands then you have a guard that can really defend.
