Intro: Wes Hooker (2019)
Class of 2019 shooting guard Wes Hooker is a 6’2” power wing out of Downers Grove South that isn’t overly projectable, but just gets stuff done. He uses his strength and motor to rebound at a high level using his second jump to crash the glass for put backs. Scores well in the paint and can convert alley-oop slams. Flashes skill on the perimeter hitting a three on occasion, but it is not consistent game in and game out yet. Hooker was a huge part of the success that an undersized Kessel Heat 16U group had on the circuit this spring and summer on the grassroots circuit.
We caught up with the DGS wing to chat about his summer with Kessel.
“It is going good. We have a lot of good players even though we don’t have that many. We play hard and together.”
He is a power guard that plays bigger than his 6’2” height. Hooker discussed that about his game.
“I like to get rebounds and crash the boards a lot. Get a lot of dunks.”
He will have to take on a bigger role this year with the graduation of TJ Clifford and Denis Alibegovic. What are his goals for this upcoming high school season?
“Winning conference and trying to go downstate.”
