DC, Maryland, Virginia Freshman Watch List (Part 2)
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout the DMV. In part two of our freshman watch list, we highlight some of the summer’s biggest class of 2021 standouts.
RYAN CONWAY | DULANEY
Ryan Conway appears set for a productive start to his high school career after a strong summer on the grassroots circuit. The highly skilled, crafty, and intelligent lead guard has consistently demonstrated the ability to get it done on both ends of the floor.
JOHN KUMINGA | MOUNTAIN MISSION
One of the breakout performers for future all american camp, John Kuminga possesses an intriguing blend of athleticism and skill to go along with a high motor. The 6’7 forward, who was a standout for the NY Jayhawks this summer, has probably the highest ceiling of anyone on this list.
DETWAN MONTAGUE | ST. FRANCES
Regardless of the setting, Detwan Montague seems always prepared to impress. We saw the talented big man play a key role for SFA in their championship at Maryland Team Camp, and then he closed out his summer by dropping 17 points in the UA Next Experience at Georgetown Prep.
WES PETERSON | BISHOP O’CONNELL
Wes Peterson may or may not play significant minutes for Joe Wootten at O’Connell this year, but we know he has a chance to be a special player down the road. The long and lanky wing has good size, skill, and is becoming a more explosive athlete as he continues to grow into his body.
DARRIUS TILGHMAN | CALVERT HALL
The main thing we took away from Darrius Tilghman‘s performance at the UA Next Experience is that he demonstrates a very good feel for the game on both ends of the court. The silky smooth lefty is crafty with the ball, and finished well with both hands in traffic. Don’t be surprised to see Tilghman step in and potentially play significant minutes in what should be a very good back court at Calvert Hall.
