Recruiting Risers: Caleb Mills & Raishaun Brown
Two of the top guards in Western North Carolina are playing in the same backcourt next season. Over the summer Raishaun Brown of Carolina Day announced he would be attending Asheville Christian Academy next year. At Asheville Christian, Brown will team up with Caleb Mills, a highly-touted rising junior point guard at Asheville Christian.
Caleb MillsBrown who is also a rising junior and Mills spent this summer playing with Team Vision out of Asheville, North Carolina and were both productive all summer. Both the guards picked up offers from Western Carolina University after their play this past weekend. This was the first official Division One offer for Brown, while he stated, “Campbell University offered me unofficially.”Mills has offers from Appalachian State and Western Carolina now. Brown had this to say about his offer,”I just want to say that I’m truly blessed to receive an offer from Western Carolina University. I also want to thank god. ”
Mills stands at 6-foot-5 and is a new-age point guard. College programs are going after the bigger point guards because the length has been hard to guard for smaller guards. Mills has the ability to see over smaller guards and can get his shot off easier. He is a streaky shooter from behind the arc and is a good finisher at the rim. Mills does a good job of attacking the paint and either scoring or making the right pass. He has a good handle and uses his long arms to deflect passes and get steals on the defensive end.
Brown is a solid combo guard at 6-foot. He can play the 1 or the 2. Hehas the ability to push the ball up the floor in transition or he can score from the perimeter. He has a good handle and can facilitate the offense. He has a strong build in his upper-body and does not get pushed around. Brown is able to get hot from beyond the three-point line like Mills and can rattle a number of baskets off in a row. He is a player with a high IQ and does not make many mistakes.
