Recruiting Report: Zach Theisen (2018)
Zach Theisen is a player that will play whatever role his team needs him to and he’s shown that with both Osseo High School and D1 Minnesota.
We’ve seen Zach be the go to scorer, we’ve seen him be the shooting weapon, the defender, and now he’s working on ball handling because as a senior he may need to do that to.
This winter helping Osseo to another 20 wins Zach scored 22 points a game and stepped forward as a leader now that he’s an upperclassmen.
“I grew as an overall basketball player this winter season, not just in scoring but passing, defense and being a team leader,” Zach told Prep Hoops.
“The experiences I will take away are how to handle myself while there is adversity, also just having fun and playing every game like it’s your last.”
So what does a coach’s son do to become an even better player (Zach’s father is Tim Theisen, one of the elite high school basketball coaches in the state of Minnesota)?
“I am looking to become and better ball handler so I can run some of the point guard, getting stronger, and becoming more talkative on defense,” Theisen said.
Theisen and D1 Minnesota are in South Carolina this week for the Adidas Finale. They play their first game Thursday afternoon. What has Zach learned from this level of play?
“This summer has showed me that you have to play 110 percent all the time or you are going to get embarrassed,” Zach said. “That’s mindset you have to have going into every game because it’s going to be a different challenge every game.”
Wayne State has offered Zach an NSIC scholarship so far and they are one of the schools he has recently visited.
“I’m hearing from Army West Point, Sioux Falls, and Wayne State,” Zach said. “I just got back from visits of Sioux Falls, Augustana, and Wayne State. I don’t have any other visits set up at this point right now.”
College is something on Zach’s mind but for the moment that can win. Winning games is more important at the moment.
“My goal for the reset of the summer is to win the remaining of the tournaments and improve on my game, my senior season goal is to get back to state,” Zach explained.
