Recruiting Report: Will Schmidt (2018)
Totino-Grace is undergoing a lot of change this winter. Key seniors like Rocky Krueser (NDSU) and Nathan Kavolak (St. John’s) are off to play college ball, and Nick Carroll is the new head coach after Rob Ware went to Maranatha Christian.
But there are also several players coming back who will give the Eagles a sense of consistency, and that will be very important. They include guys like Tyler Kittelson, Charlie Jacob and Will Schmidt.
“We have six returning seniors this year,” Schmidt told NHR. “We all play well together and have the experience and skills to have very successful season. (Coach Carroll) works us hard and definitely knows what he’s doing as a coach. He’s a great fit for our team and i’m really looking forward to the season.”
Will caught NHR’s eye when we saw him with 43 Hoops 17U at Northstar Hoops State. He’s a 6-foot-4 grinder with a great motor in the front court. He is well-rounded and would be a good pickup for nearly any D3 or NAIA college program. He recently visited St. Olaf and has also been contacted by Jamestown, St. Thomas, Saint Mary’s, Northwestern (MN), Central (Iowa) and Crown College.
“I have continued to work on my outside shot as well as getting to the hoop more. I feel like I’ve definitely improved offensively this AAU season. I plan on being a big defensive force and hitting the glass hard this year.”
He went on to talk more about 43 Hoops and his coach, Shaye Fields.
“I really like the guys I’m playing with,” he added. “We play well together and have been very successful. I’ve played for Shaye every AAU season since freshman year, and we work well together. I know everything he wants as a coach and he knows what I am as a player. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and I know we are going to do big things this July.”
