Recruiting Report: DeMarius Splunge (2020)
Wanted to shed some light on a promising recruit entering his sophomore year, 6’6 190 DeMarius Splunge of Michelle Clark High School. You might not have heard this name before but if he continues to play the way he did during his freshman campaign he has an opportunity to see his recruitment take off with a lot of offers coming his way. This is a prospect that already holds two D1 offers from Southern University and UIC.
I foresee his recruitment to take a huge increase over the July evaluation period especially since he recently announced he is leaving his former AAU program Illinois Heat for the Mac Irvin Fire 15U. Having the opportunity to play on one of the premier AAU programs in the country is going to come with an opportunity to be seen by more college coaches and scouts. If he can perform in the same way he performed for Michelle Clark during his freshman campaign he put per game averages of 22 points 10 rebounds and 4 assist he can see his recruitment and national ranking take a huge jump.
Splunge’s game will continue to grow as he continues to grow and mature as a player. He showed a lot of flashes in his freshman season posting multiple triple doubles and showing an all-around game in the process. I was blown away for a player his size being able to play all five spots on the floor and defend them all as well. I see him being able to continue to show his versatile skill set and with an improved handle on the ball his scoring average can increase as he takes on a larger role on his team this upcoming season. With his frame and being able to do so many much for his team on both offense and defense this is a to keep an eye out for in the next few years.
I recently spoke with DeMarius and asked him what position he feels more comfortable and what areas he hopes to improve upon as he enters his sophomore campaign: “With my high school and AAU Teams I play all over the floor the 1-5 spots, but I feel my main position is going to be the 3 (Wing/SF). The main areas I’m working on this summer is my ball handling and shooting the ball more consistently.”
With his move to the Mac Irvin Fire and having this new opportunity, I am looking forward to how he makes the transition to his new team as we get into the heart of the summer AAU circuit. This is a prospect that I will be keeping a very close eye on once the season starts and seeing how he attacks his Sophomore season in the Red- White Division for Michelle Clark.
