Recruiting Report: Caleb Hunter (2019)
A top point guard prospect in Michigan’s 2019 class, 5-foot-10 point guard Caleb Hunter is already seeing a slew of Division I interest come his way.
One offer has already come in (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and he mentioned two schools in particular which have been coming after him the most in the early aughts of the recruiting process,
“I’ve been getting recruited by a lot of teams; Xavier, Georgia, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, they offered me,” said Hunter.
The Southfield Christian floor general also mentioned Western Michigan, Holy Cross, Arkansas, UTEP, and Northwestern as school which have reached out to him.
“It’s been calls and emails so far. I’d say Xavier and Northwestern have been the two which have contacted me the most,” said Hunter, who’s not too anxious about the whole recruiting process.
“It’s all about trusting the process, and just seeing what happens,” said Hunter.
Michigan’s 28th-ranked 2019, Hunter — the son of former NBA point guard Lindsey Hunter — mentioned his strengths as a player during a recent phone interview with PHMI.
“I think the strongest parts of my game is my ability to dribble, my speed and quickness, my ability to run a team, make great offensive plays, and make my teammates around me better,” said Hunter.
“I’m working on my strength, my defense, and my physicality.”
He was the starting point guard as a sophomore with the Eagles, and says his leadership came along well in the process.
“My role as a sophomore was to lead the team, get us into the offense, distribute the ball, and help win games,” said Hunter.
Now, he’s finishing up his grassroots season with Detroit Elite’s 16U squad.
“I’m the starting point guard, so my role with that team is quite similar to my role with Southfield Christian; to lead the team, and help get us good wins,” said Hunter.
“This spring, I’ve learned to score more consistently, and lead a team better. I’m just hoping to increase my offensive ability by playing against the best competition.”
