Recruiting Report 2018: Cameron Rucker
Cameron Rucker, 6’6″ WF/WG, 2018. Springbrook HS Silver Spring, MD.
Grassroots Team: Metroball DC
Cameron has grown to a legitimate 6’6″ and he is a very versatile & smooth wing. We saw him numerous times in the DeMatha BSN Summer League which concluded on July 3. Cameron had some big games against some of the best teams in Washington, DC DMV. We were impressed by his range and ability to put the ball on the floor and get into the lane.
After taking DeMatha to 2 overtimes in the playoffs, a drained Cameron chatted with us. He said exactly what we saw in explaining his strengths, “I am a versatile mismatch for forwards, too big for the smalls, and too fast for the bigs. I like starting the secondary break, and I have a good mid range off the dribble. My range is beyond the 3 point line and I am a good re-bounder.” Additionally, Cameron has a very good feel for the game and very high basketball IQ. After his excellent spring & early summer, Cameron is a proven stock riser. The Washington, DC DMV is known for their elite private schools and many times excellent public high school players get overlooked. One of main goals at Prep Hoops is to help these fantastic under the radar players get exposure which they deserve and get the best for them in college
This summer Cameron says, I am making the transition from the 3-4 to the 2-3 which I want to play in college. I am putting in a lot of work on shooting the 3 off the dribble, strength & conditioning and explosion. I am happy with my progress, but I think I can improve and take it up a notch thru my hard work.” From our 3 to 4 games we watched Cameron this summer we think he can be a low D1 or higher if he progresses like we think.
In the classroom Cameron has a great GPA at 3.8 and wants to major in Business Management or Sports Administration in college.
At this point in time we evaluate Cameron as low D1 mid major, but with a very big upside. He can move up in his college potential if he continues hos current rate of development. Cameron says, While I have improved in the last year and just since the season ended, I know I can continue my player development.” Cameron has some great genes from his father Cecil Rucker who played at DC powerhouse Mackin HS and later at Notre Dame. Cecil Rucker was 6’8″ and Cameron could grow some, but he is an excellent college prospect regardless and a student of the game. He adds,” I like to watch Paul George & Brandon Ingram and try to emulate some their skills.”In watching Cameron we see some of these skills and a point forward skill-set in his game. Presently Cameron has no offers to date but we firmly believe this will change in the near future.
Cameron comes from a very close knit family and says.” My parents are great. My Dad helps me with basketball and growth as a young man. My Mom(Jade Rucker) is always there for me, but she makes sure I have priorities in order like Dad.”
Cameron thinks Springbrook could make a run to Maryland 4A Finals is all his teammates buy in. The Blue Devils have highly ranked 6’4″ WG, Matthew Balanc, (see bottom of page for Recruiting Report for Matthew.)6’2″ 2018 Anthony Deruisseau, and newcomer PG Delaino Jessup to lead the Blue Devils quest in Montgomery County 4A this year. We will be following Springbrook & MOCO basketball this mid season and after the playoffs.
Matthew Balanc, 6’4″ CG, 2018, is a D1 recruit for Springbrook HS
