Prospect Spotlight: LJ Henderson (2020)
Clinton’s 6-foot-2 guard LJ Henderson is one of 50 guys which will make their debut in the 2020 rankings later this week, and the ceiling is high for the rising sophomore.
A defensive-stopper who is a slasher offensively, Henderson defined his current set of skills to PHIA during a recent phone interview.
“I think a few of strengths are being able to drive off the dribble, and also getting my teammates open, and my defense,” said Henderson.
“I need to work on my shooting, definitely. And also my conditioning, being able to play when I’m tired. So, I’m working on that.”
Henderson started his frosh season playing up at the sophomore level. And then one of the varsity guys got hurt, so they brought Henderson up, he was starting some games by the end of the season.
After getting that varsity experience as a frosh, Henderson will step right into a leadership role with the River Kings next winter.
“My coach and I talked at the first open gym, and he said he’s really going to need to me to score and put the ball in the hoop (next season), said Henderson. “And he said he would really want me to be a team leader, especially with these sophomores who are coming up to be juniors.”
In the meantime, the athletic guard will spend his summer with Quad City Elite 15U.
“They really need me to score and put the ball in the hoop. And I’ve done really well defensive-wise, they usually put me on the other team’s best player,” said Henderson.
“I really want to finish strong, finish on a good note, and just go into my high school season and just continue to improve.”
