Prospect Spotlight: Dom Robertson (2019)
Oelwein guard Dom Robertson has been having a standout summer with the Iowa Mavericks’ 16U Orange squad, and looks to carry that momentum into the next three live period weekends.
The rangy 6-foot-1 guard mentioned in a recent phone interview with PHIA what it is that has made him so successful this offseason. And what it is he’s been working most to improve.
“I think I’m a pretty good shooter, I think I’ve taken my game to the next level as a shooter by getting into the gym and putting in some work,” said Robertson.
“I’m a decent ball-handler, and the thing I need to work on most is my defense. My game is a lot of offense, and if I want to take it to the next level I need to work on my defense.”
As a sophomore with the Huskies, Robertson was sensational, averaging 14.4 points, 3.9 steals 3.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game — all team bests. He also notched a team-best 22 blocks for good measure.
“My role last year was to be a leader, and overall I had to be a scorer, a defender, a captain, and just get on the floor and play hard,” said Robertson, who has now switched his focus to leading his Mavs Orange squad.
“This spring was great, we as a team played great. I know the skill-sets of all the guys on the team, and it was a great opportunity to work on my game.”
He added: “We’ve played some really good teams and have given them a run for their money.”
With his 16U summer just around the corner, Robertson is hoping his current light recruitment turns into more moderate recruitment.
“I’ve had a couple letters here and there, and I’m definitely, definitely open to whatever experiences come my way. I’ve had a couple of colleges (Concordia in Nebraska and Sioux Falls) ask me to come to their camps,” said Robertson, who is excited for the next three live period weekends.
“Just the opportunity to get out and play in front of college coaches is awesome, and it gives you a little bit more to play for.”
