Prospect Spotlight: Antonio Alzheimer (2020)
Recently checking in at No.15 on Iowa’s inaugural 2020 rankings list, Des Moines Roosevelt point guard Antonio Alzheimer will bring a lot to the table for the ‘Riders over the next three seasons.
A slick lead guard with sharp handles and a quick first step, Alzheimer defined his skill-set in his own words during a recent phone interview.
“I feel like I’m a pretty good defender. And I can score the ball, and get the ball to other players on my team when I need to,” said Alzhemier.
“I excel at ball-handling, and I’m working to excel on my passing a little bit more. And I’ve been just putting up a lot of shots this offseason, working on my shooting.”
As a freshman, Alzhemier was moved up to the varsity by the end of the season, and was getting some playing time the last few games. Next season, he should see his role with the varsity increase dramatically.
“I didn’t play that much last year on varsity, but this year I will. I’ll have a bigger role with the varsity next year,” said Alzhemier, who will play with Pure Prep’s 16U Powerade squad in the meantime.
“I played with the 16U team on the Powerade Circuit in the spring, and it was good learning experience because the teams were better than us. I’ve learned a lot in my first year playing with them.”
His goals by summer’s end?
“I’m hoping to be able to dunk consistently,” said Alzheimer. “And then I want to shoot better, and be at least 40 percent from the 3-point line this year.”
