Powerade Final Recap: Standout Players
2018 Point Guard Tyrese Haliburton: This young man is special, there were at least 10 D1 coaches in the building waiting to see him play and after watching him for a few minutes you could see why. He has an IQ for the game that is beyond his years, can score the ball in multiple ways, is a tremendous passer and can finish above the rim. Oh and let’s not forget one of the best attributes about him , he’s a 6’5 PG with long arms, it will be interesting to see where he eventually signs, make no doubt about it though , he’s special.
2018 Guard Jaylin Scott: Constantly applied defensive pressure which would lead to force turnovers for the opponents, he brings a nice amount of energy and focus when he plays on that end of the floor. He’s what we would call an ‘‘annoying’’ defender, you may think you have lost him but he recovers quickly and is always around.
Pure Prep 2018 Forward Johnathan Herrick: Has a very nice skillset, has the ability to rebound the ball well and stretch the floor. He may not be the best athlete but he is a fundamentally sound player, he can put the ball on the floor and knock down shots off the catch and off the dribble.
2018 Guard Aleck Sharma: D3 and NAIA programs should be all over this youngster, he does not pass the eye test at all if you just take a quick glance at him. However once you watch him play for a few moments you will realize not only does he belong but he is an outstanding shooter from deep. He knocked down at least 5 trey balls in the game I saw and was very efficient off the catch, smaller schools should be all over this young man.
Team Speights 2018 Guard Ty Quiroz: Fresh off an impressive performance at the PowerAde All-American Camp, he continued to show why he was one of the top players in the league. He can score the ball well, has a nice IQ for the game, he plays at his own pace and doesn’t get sped up at all. College coaches that need a high caliber guard should keep an eye on this young man.
