Potential July Breakout Performers
Every July players break out in front of college coaches from being relatively unknown to being the next big recruit. I saw it happen first hand with Greyson Allen during Big Shots Myrtle Beach a few summers ago. After his performance, he would eventually receive an offer from Duke and end up at the Durham school. Here is a look at some of the North Carolina and South Carolina prospects that may fall into the same boat.
Raquan Brown 6’3 G Rocky River High School/Team Charlotte-Has nice size at the guard spot and is an overall skilled player. Can knock down shots from deep at a very high rate, plays very strong and is an outstanding defensive player. Another tough Charlotte guard that would fit in well at Division One level. He is a really good ball handler and his best overall asset to compete at the next level is his toughness. Charlotte is his latest offer.
Davien Williamson 6’0 G Winston Salem Prep/Team Winston-One of the more electrifying prospects in the 2018 class. His speed and creativity in the open court sets him a part from many other guards. He is a player that could immediately help a mid-major program or come in a be a player that could be a great practice player/contribute in a year at the high-major level. He is a natural scorer with the ball in his hands.
Zach Newkirk 6’0 PG Mt. Zion/Garner Road-Smooth scoring guard who can knock down shots from all over the floor. Has strong bloodline with brother Josh who played at Pittsburgh and Indiana. Zach is making a name for himself as a underrated guard in the senior class. He is quick with the ball in his hands and can see the entire floor with the ball in hand.
Isaac SuffrenIsaac Suffren 6’2 SG Providence Day/Carolina Wolves-Smart player with a high basketball IQ, knows where to make the right pass and doesn’t make mistakes. Has high major athletic ability and can score off the dribble. Has long arms and can leap off the floor and back again as fast anyone I have seen in a while. Needs to develop the outside shot with a little more work.
Will Dillard 6’2 SF Team CP3/Greensboro Day-His recruitment has been a little under-the-radar and has offers from Wake Forest, Charlotte and Appalachian State. He is super athletic, can handle the ball, has a physical build for the next level, his shot improving and should max out at the MM-plus level.
Elbert Ellis 5’10 PG Faith Assembly/Team Felton-Crafty, really good scorer and able to get his shot off from anywhere on the floor. Has a knack for getting into the lane and can finish with either hand. Has offers at this point from Kennesaw State, NC Central, Southern and Eastern Kentucky.
Anthony Hicks 6’5 SF North Forsyth/Team Winston-At his best with the ball in his hands. Playmaking wing w/ great athleticism/vision, can see over defenders with his size, has a great personality and a will to win. He is developing a consistent shot and can score off the dribble.
