Player Interview: James Burns (2018)
James Burns – 6’6” | W/F | Lafayette Jefferson High School
Player Interview: Prep Hoops Indiana Senior Showcase
2018 James Burns was the most impressive prospect at the showcase this past weekend. Major strides have been made in his game on both ends of the floor. He put together a strong showing in front of forty plus college coaches and should see the benefits of his work start showing soon.
Burns attends Lafayette Jefferson where is plays his high school ball and has been playing his AAU ball with Indiana Elite Central 2018. James is just starting to tap into his potential. He attacked off the dribble, finished above the rim with strong dunks, knocked down jumpers consistently, and impacted the glass on both ends of the floor. Definitely a prospect to keep on the radar in the coming months as he looks to continue his strong play.

Q: How has the AAU season been going for you so far?
A: “It’s been a pretty good season. Just for us developing chemistry and stuff as a team. And me challenging myself going into my new role as a leader for my team in high school. Just testing some of the things that I will be going through next season.”
Q: Explain your new role a little bit and what you’ve been working on to get there.
A: “Developing into more of a scorer and not just being a screener. Being more than just a pick and roll person. Being more involved, working on my ball handling. Becoming a combo guard and working more facing the basket. Definitely working in transition and finishing stronger.”
Q: How has the recruiting process been going?
A: “I’m just focusing on my game and grinding this summer. I haven’t had any visits or calls from anyone. I’m only 16 so I’m trying to figure out what I want to do in the future. Prep School is a possibility.”
Q: What do people need to know about James Burns and your game?
A: “The first person there, the last person to leave. Work the hardest. I don’t want anyone to outwork me.”
Q: What’re you looking forward to heading into this season with Lafayette Jefferson?
A: “Just to ride it out the last time with my boys. We went 24-1 in June so we’re ready.”
