North Carolina in PrepHoops Top 250
North Carolina had twelve players make the 2018 edition of The PrepHoops Top 250. The national rankings are a compilation of all of the markets PrepHoops cover and a input based ranking from all of the staff that are out watching these players as much as anyone.
Coming in at #20 is UNC recruit Coby White out of Greenfield School in Wilson, North Carolina who is spending this summer running with Team CP3. He is a big time scoring guard who can fill the basket up in a hurry, above average athletic ability who can finish at the rim in traffic. Has had a great season on the Nike EYBL circuit and was named The Gatorade Player of the Year for North Carolina.
Not far behind White is Team Charlotte point guard Devon Dotson, at #24. Dotson helped Providence Day win a NCISAA 3-A state title as a sophomore and is having one of the best performances on the Under Armor circuit. He has good size at the PG spot, high level defender and can get by defenders with his change of pace.
At #26 is French raised Jaylen Hoard who plays alongside Coby White in the backcourt on Team CP3. Hoard has a good frame and college build for the wing spot, has a quick first-step and can get off of the floor in a hurry. He can score off the dribble or knock down the set shot.
Jairus Hamilton grabs the #58 national spot. The athletic big forward is playing this summer with The Georgia Stars on the Nike EYBL. Hamilton has a long wingspan at nearly 6’10, long arms, quick off the floor and can move laterally very fast. Has a college ready body and possesses a strong handle for his size and is a above average rebounder.
The #59 spot goes to UNC commit Rechon Black who is playing this summer with Team CP3 and has announced that he will attend Cox Mill High School alongside one of the top 2019’s in the country, Wendell Moore. Black, is a long and athletic 3-man, he can take the ball up the floor and at 6-foot-7, he can see over most defenders to deliver the right pass. He can score off the dribble and post up smaller players.
Maryland commit Aaron Wiggins of Team Charlotte/Wesleyan Christian comes in at #64 in the PrepHoops Top 250. Wiggins is a big and athletic at forward who is a defensive nightmare, he can take defenders off the dribble or post up. He is one of three Wesleyan Christian players in the Top 250.
6-foot-9 big man Immanuel Bates is ranked as the 117th best prospect in the country. With a 7’2 wingspan, Bates is long and can corral rebounds and can block shots. He has good footwork on the post and can score with either hand.
Recent Clemson commit John Newman who is also a Team CP3 and Greensboro Day player, comes in at #118. Newman is underrated for his skill level and the combo-guard is athletic and can get off the floor in a hurry for blocks and rebounds. Brad Brownell came into North Carolina and scooped up one of the best overall players in the state with Newman.
Creighton commitment Ian Steere is ranked as the #158 player in the PrepHoops Top 250. Steere plays alongside Aaron Wiggins on the Team Charlotte Under Armor circuit. He is a skilled big man that is agile and can get position in the post. The big man runs the floor, gets blocks on defense and dunks in transition. Playing with Team Charlotte coaches by Jeff McInnis, Steere is getting maximum exposure on the Under Armour circuit.
One of the top shooters in the state, Trey Wertz of Team Loaded NC and NCISAA power Providence Day is ranked #198 in the national rankings for 2018. Wertz has the size at 6-foot-5 for the next level and can play two-three positions at the collegiate level.
Christ School point guard Damon Harge Jr, is ranked as the #217 best prospect in the country. Harge is one of the best ball-handlers in the country. What he lacks in size he makes up in athletic ability and his ability to blow by defenders and he can make big shots when the time comes.
Nate Hinton takes the #234 spot on The PrepHoops Top 250. Hinton is a big guard at 6-foot-5, and has a great build. As athletic of a player as you will find. He can score in a variety of ways and brings a level of high-energy to the game. He has a great motor that goes and goes.
Greensboro Day and Team CP3 guard Will Dillard takes the #246 spot on the national 2018 rankings list. He is an athletic forward who can guard anyone on the floor. Dillard is one of the most athletic players in the state, can jump out of the gym. Can knock down the mid-range shots and can step out behind the three-point line. A strong defender who has a bloodline of playing college basketball. His brother Reggie played at Presbyterian College.
