July Stock-Risers
Some players are relatively unknown on the national recruiting circuit for their whole careers, some players make a name for themselves in the July recruiting period and burst onto the national scene and become big-time high school basketball recruits. Here is a look at some of the best players in the region and how they catapulted their recruitment to a national level.
Vincent ColeTrey McGowens (6’3, 2018) Hargrave Military/Upward Stars SE-McGowens is known to be one of the most athletic players in the region, he also showed during July that he has the ability to make mid-range jump shots and step out and knock down the deep-ball. He had 25 mid-low major offers before his showing at Adidas Gauntlet Finale and Victor Oladipo Skills Academy in Washington, D.C. His recruitment took off after these first three weeks in July as VCU and Ole Miss became high-major schools interested in his services and offered.
Vincent Cole (6’5, 2018) York Prep/Upward Stars SE-Cole was once a College of Charleston commitment, but after re-classifying and moving to York Prep, Cole has solidified his status as a high-major recruit. He recently picked up an offer from Texas Tech University and has been garnering some major attention as of late. He is a long wing that can put the ball on the floor and can also shoot it from deep consistently. I expect his recruitment to end up adding some SEC and ACC flavor to it by the time it is all said and done.
Nate Hinton (6’5, 2018) Gaston Day/Team Loaded NC-Nobody on the mid-major level had the July that Hinton just experienced. He went from a bonafide mid-major caliber player to one of the most sought after recruits in the country with his athleticism, scoring ability and willingness to put in the work necessary to make the big jump. He picked up offers from Indiana, Pittsburgh, Maryland to name a few.
