July Potential Breakout Performers (Part II)
Every July players break out in front of college coaches from being relatively unknown to being the next big recruit. I saw it happen first hand with Greyson Allen during Big Shots Myrtle Beach a few summers ago. After his performance, he would eventually receive an offer from Duke and end up at the Durham school. Here is a look at some of the North Carolina and South Carolina prospects that may fall into the same boat.
Vincent Cole 6’5 SG York Prep/Upward Stars-One of the top scoring guards in the region with great size, compares a lot to a bigger Trey McGowens but shoots it better. He is long and can score from the perimeter. Has a knack with hitting shots in crunch time and is a true winner. Some question his attitude and desire but each and every conversation with him has been “Yes sir or No Sir.” He has been well traveled at the high school but under Frank Hamrick at York Prep he will qualify.
2021
Carson McCorkle 6’2 SG Garner Road/Greensboro Day–High lever scorer at each level he also possesses a sneaky 1st step with the athleticism that would surprise many of his frame, he will wind up being one of the most efficient scorers in his class. He is re-classifying to the 2021 class.
2020
Mekhi Townes 6’4 SF Garner Road–He affects the game in many ways with his superior footwork in the post, yet he has a gift of being able to knock down the 15 footer or fade away 10 footer. He has a strong build and is able to bang down-low with the bigger players.
Day’ron Sharpe 6’6 PF/SF Garner Road/South Central HS)-This young man brings attributes of a high level player on both ends, will block a shot on one end and also posses the skill set to take it coast to coast and finish on the other end. He can finish at the rim or below near the basket, runs the floor and can finish, rebounds and has nice footwork. One to watch.
