Breakdown: When looking at the 16U players we saw this weekend in Indianapolis, the performances they provided were huge as many others wore down, they stepped up. Guys like Carson Guthrie, Reece Thomson, and Breaden Beard. Guthrie is a Kentucky kid but runs with Pocket City and put up some big numbers this weekend. Tall guard who looks more and more confident throughout the summer. Thomson really has his jumper working for him and when it is, he has a ton of confidence in his game. Beard is a kid who was playing up a year but might have been the best player on his team. He’s got great size and toughness already, another year of development could really go a long way.
Two Northern Indiana kids showed out this weekend as well. Eric Jerge has been a favorite of mine since our Top 250 Expo last fall and he showed much improvement this weekend. He’s bigger and stronger but still has the ultimate confidence and toughness. He runs the team like a leader and can show the same ability to get to the rim. Also, Alex Mossed of South Bend St. Joseph is a guy to watch. Big 6’7+ player with mobility and a good frame. Could be a sleeper this fall worth a look.
