Early Early Look at 3-A
The 3-A classification in North Carolina public school basketball took a huge Vegas odds jump with the addition of PrepHoops 51st 2018 national recruit Rechon Black transferring to defending champion Cox Mill HS.
The Chargers now have Black, and the number 31 recruit in the 2019 class, Wendell Moore. Last season Cox Mill won it finishing with a 27-6 record, giving head coach Jody Barbee his first ring at the Concord-based school.
The runner-up last season was Eastern Guilford HS who only lose 3 seniors on a team that was stacked with juniors, sophomores and freshman. Jaylen Alston returns after averaging 21 points per game.
Another team in 3-A to watch is Northern Guilford who return Elon recruit Andy Pack and big man Jack Garrison off a 19-10 team that didn’t play at times to their talent.
Freedom High School brings back nearly 32 points per game from last season with the return of rising junior guards Jacari Dula and Fletcher Abee. Freedom finished 28-3 last season.
Northern Nash returns senior Undray Cherry and junior Davontae Wiggins from the team that finished 25-4 last season.
Other teams to watch in this very early look at next season are Hickory Ridge (20-8), Eastern Alamance (24-6), Southern Durham (19-8), West Rowan (18-10).
