Dayton’s Top 5 Pick Pocketers
Defense wins championships and these guys defensive talent is why their team has had success during their season. Here are the top 5 pick pocketers in Dayton:
Amari Davis (2019)- One of Trotwood’s great defensive players from last season, Amari averaged 3 steals per game a year ago. Using his 6’4 length to his advantage, Davis disrupted passes and jumped passing lanes with ease. He was notorious for throwing down dunks on the other end after creating turnovers.
Andre Gordon (2019)- Andre really could make every list we have, but this one he definitely deserves. An athletic PG, Andre has great speed and court awareness and knows when to jump passes and create turnovers. He along with Ratez Roberts make Sidney one of the best defensive teams in Dayton. Averaging 3 steals per game last year, expect Andre to put up even bigger numbers next season.
Ryan Montgomery (2018)- One of the top pick pocketers in the SWBL, Ryan showed just how dominate he could be while playing against Valley View as he stole 6 balls that game. Ryan is part of a strong backcourt at Franklin HS and will be their defensive leader in 2017-18. A multi-sport athlete, Ryan has a great basketball IQ and uses it to read passing lanes, just like he reads linebackers on the football field.
Jalan Minney (2020)- The top pick pocketer in the CBC last year, Jalan has a bright future if he continues to put up numbers like that in the future. He had a season high 6 steals in 3 games this season. Not known for his scoring, if Jalan is able to improve his scoring output a bit, he can be a dangerous player in the future.
Matt Welker (2018)- Matt was a defensive nightmare last season against Troy Christian when he stole the ball 7 times. Averaging 3 steals per game, Matt is a great defensive player and could arguably be the best defender in the MBC if it weren’t for James Anderson and his great shot blocking skill in the same league. Matt has great speed and uses it to create turnovers when guarding on the ball and in help-side scenarios.
