Dayton’s Top 5 Defenders
Dayton is home to several of the top defenders in the state. Whether it be shot-blockers or steals, these 5 guys excel on the defensive end of the floor and make plays. Here are the top 5 defenders in Dayton.
Amari Davis (2019)- By far one of the best defenders in the city, Davis excels especially when it comes to steals. With his 6’4 stature, Amari can guard opposing guards and forwards making him a nightmare to prepare for. Davis is known for throwing down dunks on the fast break after creating steals.
Shaunn Monroe (2019)- Monroe has great speed which makes him a great on-the-ball defender. Along with his 2.1 steals per game last year, Monroe proved to be a strong defender for the Skyhawks. Several key backcourt pieces graduated from Fairborn this past season, but one thing is for sure, Shaunn will be looked upon on both ends of the floor for Fairborn to be successful next season.
Ratez Roberts (2019)- Ratez is definitely one of the best on-the-ball defenders along with Monroe. Standing at 6’2, Roberts plays physical as a forward but is quick enough to guard opposing guards as well. Averaging almost 3 blocks per game, Roberts is dangerous as a rim protector and overall is a dangerous defensive player in Ohio.
L’Christian Smith (2018)- One of Wayne’s returning seniors, Smith is a do-it-all defender. At 6’5, he can guard on the perimeter, but he also can guard opposing post players. Most of last season, that is where Smith defended and he showed he was very capable of doing so. Smith will play a huge role for the Warriors next season on the defensive end.
Justin Stephens (2019)- A premier shot blocker, Stephens used his length to be a force defensively especially in the paint. Long and lengthy, Stephens used all of his 6’6 stature to lead the GWOC in blocks last season but also disrupts plays because of his size. Justin plays physical in the paint making it hard for opponents to score.
