Prospect Spotlight: Hayden Passmore (2019)
Linn-Mar stretch-four Hayden Passmore spent his spring and summer turning heads with Team Iowa 16U, and now has his sights set on a successful junior season with the Lions.
As a sophomore, Passmore missed most of the season due to injury. But now, he’s back to 100 percent, and has been working hard this summer to improve his game.
Specifically, he’s been working this offseason to make himself a more versatile forward.
“My AAU coach has me bring the ball up a lot so I can work on my ball-handling. I’ve really been working on that a lot, and my 3-point shot,” said Passmore.
“I’ve been working on slashing and getting to the rim and stuff like that. It’s been a really good experience, I really have enjoyed it.”
Now, the rising junior is finished with his 16U offseason, and is heading into the high school season with some goals in mind.
“I want to be a starter, that’s definitely one of my goals. And I want to be a vocal leader, maybe even a captain if that’s possible. I want to be able to motivate the guys,” said Passmore.
“And then just have a successful season with Linn-Mar,”
Passmore — who is capable of handling the ball, and hitting a jumper — will play more post than wing for the Lions. But he’ll he some opportunities to showcase his perimeter skills.
“It sounds like I’ll probably be playing the stretch-four, and I talked to my coach and he wants me to put on a little more weight for the varsity level,” said Passmore. “And I’m going to need to continue and work on my ball-handling.”
Between now and November, when practice will officially start, Passmore will work on adding weight, and improving his jumper.
“I have a workout routine, and I’ll be doing things to put on more weight. I’ll be lifting and getting up a lot of shots as often as I can,” said Passmore. “Just getting ready for the season.”
