Summer League Scouting Reports: Riverside
Riverside is one of the more exciting team’s to watch with coach Timmy Byrd’s uptempo style of play. The Rebels are never shy to let if fly under his tutelage and they’ve been putting points on the board in summer league action with one of the state’s top point guards running the show.
Jared Butler — 2018 6’3 PG
Butler is a big time point guard with great size, elite vision as a passer, excellent handles and a shooting stroke to envy. He’s as smooth as they come executing an array of head fakes, no look passes or nifty finishes in the paint through contact depending on the situation. If you’re lucky enough to cut him off, he can rise up for an easy 15-footer or maybe he’ll just decide to pull up in your face from 3-point range. Plain and simple, Butler is a stud and he’s already being courted by the likes of Alabama, Houston and Tulane among others.
Garland Robertson — 2018 6’2 G
Robertson was on fire Tuesday drilling 3 after 3 against St. Aug in the final game of the day. His shooting broke the game open early and the Purple Knights were never able to recover in what was an easy win for Riverside. The 6-foot-2 prospect has been great next to Butler not only knocking down shots from the perimeter but also getting into the paint to put even more pressure on defenses.
Jalen Banks — 2018 6’4 W
Banks plays a key role for Riverside as a versatile defender that also does a lot of the dirty work inside. He’s a tough player that will compete on both ends and his 3-point shot continues to improve, especially from the corner, giving the Rebel guards more space to work with.
Kash Foley — 2019 6’0 G
Foley is another key part of the Rebel’s high-octane attack with his ability to shoot from long range. He has also been a consistent finisher around the rim despite his size throughout the summer at Landry-Walker.
Jeremiah Bigham — 2018 6’3 G
A well put together 6-foot-3 guard, Bigham brings a nice blend of strength and skill to the wing for Riverside. He’s a capable shooter but is at his best attacking the lane and just needs to be a little more confident on the court to make more of a consistent impact.
Isaiah Bigham/Gage Larvadain — 2019 5’11 G/2021 5’7 PG
Bigham and Larvadain are a pair of young prospects who carved out some time on the court over the summer. Both also saw a bit of action last year and Larvadain is particularly interesting with his ball handling and shooting touch.
