Recruiting Report: Tyree Myers (2018)
Every team needs a solid floor general. Tyree Myers, a class of 2018 guard at Mount Saint Joseph High School, has elevated his game to another level after a strong run of play on the EYBL with Team Melo. Myers has not only put himself in contention with the best point guards in Baltimore, but in the Mid-Atlantic region.
“I feel that I have a good floor game. I read the floor well and get my teammates involved in the game. My job is to make everyone around me better while scoring a little bit also,” Myers explained. “One thing that I do on the court that most people don’t see is that I actually play hard on defense with the heavy workload of handling the ball and making sure everyone gets there shots on offense.”
Myers leads Team Melo, who are headed to Peach Jam, in assists. He is averaging five dimes, while committing under two turnovers per contest. This speaks to confidence he has after his recent improvements.
“The most improved aspect of my game in the last 12 months I feel would be the way I manage the game. If the game gets hectic I have to slow it down. But when we need to get out and run I get it out and run. Just managing the whole game giving my team a better chance to win,” said Myers. “I think the next part of my game that I need to work on is knocking down the 3 consistently. It goes in sometimes but I want it to be automatic. Nobody should ever leave me open or go under screens.”
Myers is being actively recruited by Ole Miss, UMBC, Mount St. Mary’s, Santa Clara, and Utah Valley.
“I am doing well in school. I take it seriously,” said Myers about his academic standing. “I currently have a 3.4 GPA.”
Myers could emerge as a target for Patriot and Ivy league schools in the near future. What can he bring to a college program?
“I feel that I could bring leadership to a college program and immediate impact on getting people shots and involved.”
